Default What Plans Are There For Xmas In GW This Year?

I was just wondering if anybody had any news on what special things will be going on in GW for Xmas this year. For example, on Halloween LA & Kamadan etc got a spooky makeover, Halloween items dropped & the Mad King visited.

Thanks.

Nope, not American. Wintersday is a GW thing. I believe this is due to the lack of Jesus Christ in Tyria. Hence no CHRISTmas...

Ooh snap, thanks.

Why was there Halloween then? You'd think that would be named something else aswell.

They said each side will have different hats. Is there a way to obtain both hats?

What do you mean by "each side"? Kurzick & Luxon?

People find Satan's holiday less offensive than Jesus' ??

EDIT: In case you can't tell I'm joking. I just don't need a lecture on the true origins of Halloween from anyone...Thanks.

EDIT #2: Check out the link I gave above. It will explain the two sides you can take, Grenth's or Dwayna's

The two sides are Dwyana(Spring and new life) and Grenth(death and cold..think the Grinch of GW).
IN Kamadan (Nightfall chapter) and Lion's Arch (Prophecies Chapter) the two gods will fight over who will reign. Depending on which god wins, will determine the reward. They will each hand out a different festival hat and reward players with some gifts for helping them win. As I read in another thread, it sounds like there will be only TWO hats this year, not four like we had last year.
Also, the "battle" is replayed all day on January 1st, so you can help Dwyana one time and then Grenth the next.

Christmas is a Christian thing - and as I'm sure you know, not everyone playing GW is a Christian. So Wintersday is not Christmas - it's just a winter festival, more like Yuletide. But, some people think Yuletide to be a Christian thing, so they didn't use that name either.

Halloween, like Yuletide, is actually an old Pagan thing. It involves witches, and ghosts and other non-Christian things. (Some Christians even suggest it's the work of the devil, but Satan has nothing to do with it either.)

At any rate, ANet tries to keep it's festivals as non-denominational as possible, it seems. (And rightly so!)

You can get as many hats as you like since there are multiple opportunities to get them.

2 from LA type depends on which god wins at the time.
2 others from Kamadan same conditions.

So four hats in all LA was Antlers and santa hat Kamadan was snowman and Jesters cap.
Havn't heard of any change for this year.

Love the idea of Halloween being Satans Holiday.
Considering Pagans dont believe in him and its their festival.

No Halloween event.... it's about the Mad King
No Christmas event ..... it's Wintersday. Wintersday falls on the first of the year, not Christmas day.

Usually it is only four hats but the GW site says there will be nine grand finales. I wonder if there will be more hats because of the design-a-hat contest.

Only 2 hats this year. There will be no difference between the towns.

EDIT: Why is the swear filter blocking my message?

By 9 Grand Finales, they probably mean times to get the hats, similar to most hat giving events. 24 hours, event is every 3 hours. 24/3 is 8, and I believe last year they repeated the midnight one the next day, so 9.

yeah 2 hats, a bunch of times to get them, and lots of other goodies too (hope they do the packages again this year, got some candy canes out of the ones last year!).....so I usually plan on doing as many of them as possible (and heck its on new years day....nothing much else to do). So lots of goodies (need a pray icon).
